Bio

Philip McDougall has been a part of the fitness industry—either as an athlete or as an internationally recognized coach—all of his adult life. Prior to and during university as a competitive ski racer, then as an elite-level triathlete and a martial artist. But perhaps his greatest challenge was the six years that he spent at the cream of the British military as a Royal Marines Commando, including two front line tours of duty to Afghanistan. These days, he is a trainer of trainers and travels around the world sharing his knowledge and pursuing his plight of helping everyday people move better and be stronger. His vast and varied skill set includes postural alignment, kettlebells, boxing, movement therapy, triathlon and event readiness, calisthenics, Pilates, and cardiovascular and strength coaching. His diverse background and extensive industry certifications afford him a very unique and holistic view of the human body, which are invaluable both in his roles as an athletic performance coach as as well as a movement and rehab specialist. His clients have included elite athletes, stage performers, cover models and celebrities, but his real passion lies in helping everyday people. When he is not helping his remote clients from his virtual gym or climbing mountains, he spends his time traveling both nationally and internationally teaching trainers and working private events for his luxury clientele.

Exercise Ethos

Everything you do is answerable to one question... Will this (activity/exercise/program/goal/diet) make life better at eighty? If the answer is no, don't do it. If exercise ever causes injury, there's something seriously wrong with the programming. Train smart, for longevity.

Reducing stress by addressing lifestyle and diet habits come first. Increasing your ability to move and balance are primary physical goals, no matter what the ultimate goal is. It's very straight forward to get in shape, build strength, agility and cardiovascular capacity on a body of any age that can move well.

Nutrition Ethos

Eat like they do in the Blue Zones. Eat real food (that was once alive itself), mostly vegetables. Avoid processed foods, which is 95% of that sold in supermarkets. Real food is medicine. Good gut health = better everything. Beer and wine are good for the soul. Anything made from scratch is fair game.
